While you are striving to shed a few pounds or so, you will want to use online website tools to tally weight loss, BMI, calorie use, exercise level, and the amount of weight you are trying to lose. This is very advantageous for individuals who have a hard time with successful weight loss and for people who desire motivation to get rid of those extra pounds..Every website posseses their own array of tools and calculators that are a great help in pursuing the development and imparting inspriation to people who are in a neverending struggle with weight loss. Types Of Weight Loss Calculators:

When looking for weight loss tools online, there are many to be found. These sites include a lot of information about weight loss, weight gain, weight maintenance, food, exercise and more. Check out some typical weight loss calculators that you will find on various sites:

BMI Calculator:

What Is BMI (Body Mass Index)?

A body mass index is a calculation that uses a ratio of determinants such as age, weight and height to show a number which will be correlated to healthy weight range, overweight class, and obese weight group. The findings are used to decide if an person is in need of losing weight in order to prevent possible diseases that are related to a high BMI. Evidence has been provided by continuous research that people with high BMI’s are highly likely to get diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, risks of stroke, and even death.

It is unusual for a health or weight loss website to not offer a BMI calculator A BMI calculator could construct health risks and amount of body fat that your body consists of in a rough estimate decided by height, weight, and age. Understanding your BMI can assist you in motivational purposes to get rid of weight, because when the numbers speak worlds about your current weight class, it can kindle inspiration for an individual to try to lose the weight to get a healthier body for their improved future.

Calorie Calculators:

One of the several online tools is the calorie counter. There are calculators that are set up for weight loss and they commonly show the amount of calories a person needs to expend during exercising or deduct from their diet. Others are set up for weight gain and indicate the amount of calories someone would need to gain weight. Also there are calorie calculators that add the number of calories contained in certain foods so that an individual can measure the number of calories they have burned for a total.

Reasons Calories Are Critical

Calories are a computation or unit of energy which is used by the body to sustain it. Somebody who has reduced activity may not need as many calories as a person who is an athlete or who is quite active. The amount you digest in calories, and how much your body uses or burns is an influential factor in weight loss or weight increase for that matter.

Calories are critical in weight reduction, because an individual needs to track the quantity they digest and what categories of foods include fat calories, and healthy calories. These types of calculators can provide an individual with an ample source of data that will get them started in losing weight healthily. An Awesome benefit to adopting one of these calculators is that it takes the nuisance out of manually counting all the calories on your own.

Applying calorie counters and calculators can be a very effective method to stay on track with a specific diet or weight loss routine. There are a lot of calculators, and a lot of fantastic information online that could help a person put together a diet and weight loss plan.

Diet Plans and Workout Tools

Other than weight reduction calculators, the internet contains plenty of other types of tools and programs that supply information on diet programs, workout and exercise plans and weight loss routines. Many websites contain a list of diet plans, along with recipes and different types of diets from low fat, low carb, detox diets, low glycemic index diets, low cholesterol diets, and more.

Not only do websites have information on diet and weight reduction routines, but they could contain facts about exercise programs, along with tips to initiate a greater workout program. The above-mentioned plans could also supply an enormous variety of additional facts, such as whether or not the exercise builds strength, stability, tones muscles or even works out the cardiovascular system.

Using these types of methods in combination will make for an easier weight reduction process. All of these calculators gives a person a clue of the things and efforts that they need to make in order to reach their weight reduction objective. Whether it be following meal plans, understanding where your BMI should be, logging calories and creating a shortage so that one can drop weight, or accepting how much weight you want to lose and how long it could take to get to a healthy weight these calculators and tools are invaluable with the help they can supply to people for one of the toughest things to fulfill in life.

What a good method of fast <b>weight loss</b>? _ Health Wiki

i am 10-15 pounds overweight and i am in my pubescent years, i need to Lose Weight and fast.

i am not very active, in the sense of going to exercise and etc. i also wouldn't mind motivation for exercise either :)

also, is losing 15 pounds easy?

please recommend any good methods for a fast weight loss, i would greatly appreciate it :)
thanks! There are unnatural ways of burning fat by burning thermogenics, which I don't recommend even as a GNC representative because they can mess with your hormones and thyroid.

The best way to make your body utilize fat and burn them is to limit your carb intake while increasing your lean meat intake.
Remember proteins do not make you gain weight, instead carbs/sugar from snacks/too much fruits/rice/potatoes/etc will make you gain weight thus putting on fat.

You must burn off the extra calories that you are consuming from mainly carb/sugar products to lose weight.
And it's not going to be easy to lose weight while not exercising and it is not healthy.

Also try squeezing lemon in a cup of water in the morning right after waking up and drink it. It will suppress the appetite a bit and increase your metabolism naturally to promote fat burning.

Keep doing it until you see results.Looking for fast weight loss is not a great solution, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is.

However, I have found that at the very beginning of a fitness/healthy eating regimen, many people will find a quick weight loss simply by cutting out the "bad" foods and eating healthy. Personally, I lost 6 lbs in my first week, simply by making smart food choices, and cutting out soda completely. That weight loss doesn't continue (6 lbs/week)… if you continue with the healthy lifestyle you can expect to lose 1-2 lbs a week after that.Hi there,

First of all, losing 10-15 pounds is easy with the right methods and fasting is NOT a good method because your body will go into starvation mode and when you start eating again it will hold onto ANYTHING it can and store it as fat. So that's a big nono.

To lose weight as fast as possible and do it in a healthy way is not as hard as people think. Just cutting SODA and sugary drinks from your diet COMPLETELY is just one awesome way to Lose Weight Fast. That along with the other tips I'm going to share below and you will be on your way to easily losing the weight and keeping it off.

As cliche as it may sound you gotta eat your veggies. They are amazingly good for you, also raw nuts (almonds are best) fruits, and 100% whole grain breads instead of white flours (white flour is very bad for you, read up on it if you get the chance!) Try and stay away from fried foods and fast food as much as possible, and other empty calories and foods that provide you no nutrients, like ice cream/candy/cake etc. Common sense goes a long way with what foods to eat and how to be healthy, so use it :)

Building healthy eating habits and keeping the weight off in the long term is what you should really strive for. Also, make sure you don't count calories, it can drive you CRAZY! Just eat GOOD calories, and when your satisfied, stop eating. Try to eat more meals a day and portion them smaller, it really is proven to speed up your metabolism and burn fat way faster. If you mix this in with the other things I've shared, you will be on your way to easily losing weight and keeping it off.

Just be persistent, set goals, make little changes and stick with them. You will get to where you want to be. You really have to want it, I did and I'm at my goal weight now. Please check out my blog, I think you will enjoy the information and my weight loss story. The link is below and best of luck hon.My Aunt went on a diet that only consist of meat and she lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks she explained to me that during this diet your muscle eats away fat and makes more muscle but im sure she didnt just lay around and eat meat all day and lose weight so im sure you must manage some excercise daily still. The only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you take in. There are no short cuts. No it's not easy.eat a triple steak burger large fry large coke large mc-freezyI think you know the answer, but looking for a quick fix.Just try my method http://www.laurenblog.tkYour body won't release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs and increase exercise. It will slow your metabolism to compensate and store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering your calories, it will continue lowering that set point, til you can survive off nothing and store fat on anything.

You will lose more body fat eating protein and fat (don't eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast eat all you want but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter and half an avocado a day (you'll need added potassium). Keep the calories high and the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Adding in green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.

If you starve yourself by lowering calories lower than are needed for the body to function, your body will freak out and will want to store every ounce in case it doesn't get nourished again. You need to give it adequate nourishment so it doesn't slow your metabolism down to adjust for lower calories.

Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) triggers insulin which can store the calories you eat into fat. The more protein you eat the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate you eat the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.

Simple carbs are addictive and can be disastrous to our health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a huge batch of deviled eggs and eat one every time you want "something" have huge omelets for breakfast, with bacon, a lil onion, peppers, mushrooms & cheese. Pork chops for lunch. Get pork rinds and eat them with tuna salad. Steak for dinner. Make a huge sugar free cheese cake for dessert. Eat so much you won't feel deprived of anything. By the fourth day, your addiction will be gone and you can start making healthy choices.

High insulin levels unbalance other hormones. Controlling your insulin level will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so you will gain lean muscle even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase your muscle mass with high HGH levels.

Once you get near your goal, you start adding 5 carbs every 3 days til you gain weight, then you subtract 10 carbs. That would give you your personal carb level (everyone is different and it depends on how active you are.) As long as you remain <9 carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control, and shouldn't gain weight. Many people gain weight on high carb, then switch to low carb to lose weight & then are shocked when they return to high carb that they gain weight. Many people can return to moderate carb levels but very few can really eat all they want of sugar and maintain weight or health.

Dr.Atkins was a cardiologist, low carb was a health plan easier sold as a "diet" Read any of his books for easily understandable science. Lutz "Life without Bread" & Taubes "Good calorie, bad calorie" are excellent books that dispel all the nutrition myths.

Reducing body fat and increasing muscle mass will have you in awesome shape in no time. Good luck!I have been through it all and know what's it about. The main thing is to stick in there. You can't be an addict to food and never exercise if you want to live a healthy life and keep the weight off. I've worked out, done every diet, and all types of classes.

Nothing works, besides dedication and intelligence towards the subject of losing weight.

First, depending on how much weight you need to lose, your diet is the first concern. You can't eat 10,000 calories a day and expect the weight to come off, even if you are exercising a lot. Which brings us to the next thing. Duh, Exercising…

This is a must especially if you need to a lot of weight. Get at least 30 mins of some good hardcore exercising. Do some cardio, in the long run, it's good for the heart.

However, I find the most hardest part of losing weight/keeping it off, in my diet. It's so hard to keep your fingers out of the cookie jar or those chocolate goodies. I've found a great addition to help any one out, it's a natural weight loss supplement called Proactol. Now don't get all crazy on me and say diet pills don't work. That is true, but not in this case. This one isn't meant to burn pounds while you sit on the couch. It's an appetite suppressant, along with being a fat binder. I saved money on the pills at theweightlossplace dot com along with getting some good info. It basically makes those fingers not go towards the cookie jar. For me it's the best pill I've tried and I've tried cupboards full. Now this doesn't mean you have to follow my foot steps but I've successfully lost roughly 70 pounds and keeping it off til this day.

Well good luck and remember what I said, Dedicate.Crash diets are never successful because they are hard to maintain.
They also slow the bodys metabolism rate as the body will lock into survival mode.
When I started on my weightloss regime I had to realise that I had put on weight because of a lifetime of bad eating choices.

Serious weight loss can only be achieved by giving your body the right types of calories at the correct times each day,

Low Fat Foods DON'T WORK.

You cannot lose weight using Low Fat Diets. Low fat foods have been popular for more than 15 years, but yet our society is getting more overweight as each year passes. This fact alone should tell you that eating a purely low fat menu is not the answer to losing weight.

Low Calorie Diets DON'T WORK.

You won't lose weight using a Low Calorie Dieting Plan either. In fact, eating low calories is the worst thing that you can do to your body, since that will only slow down your body's fat burning engine and ruin all chances of losing weight (low calorie diets may allow a few pounds of weight loss for the first few days, but then after that all weight loss comes to a halt — known as a dieting plateau). You can never get slim by starving yourself.

Low Carb Plans DON'T WORK.

You'll probably find it extremely difficult to get slim using a Low Carb Dieting Plan. Low carb diets have recently become popular over the last couple years, but the problem with low carb menus is that they are too strict and TOO HARD TO FOLLOW for average people. Low carb menus tend to rob your body of too much energy (carbohydrates) and make it nearly impossible to remain on the program for very long. This is why so many dieters find it difficult to follow a strict low carbohydrate menu.
If you're looking to get skinny then we have created an Online Diet Generator which can allow you to lose weight fast, and more importantly our diet generator is easy to use (and it calculates all of your meals for you, so that you don't have to do any work yourself).

6 Effective <b>Weight Loss</b> Methods

6 Effective Weight Loss Methods: Women24: Wellness: Diet News24.com HomeMailBlogsAlbumsClassifieds24.com Sites  Related Links 10 Best Weight Loss Tips 7 easy diet tricks Top 5 weight loss essentials

1. Lifestyle change
Permanent weight loss is not something that a “quick-fix” diet can achieve. Instead, think about weight loss as a permanent lifestyle change. You are making a commitment to your health for life. Various popular diets can help to jump-start your weight loss, but permanent changes in your lifestyle and food choices are what will work long term.

2. Find a cheering section
Social support means a lot. Programs like Weighless use group support to impact weight loss and lifelong healthy eating. Seek out support, whether in the form of family, friends, or a support group, so that you can get the encouragement you need.

3. Commit to a P.O.A

Experiment until you find a good, long-term plan that helps you lose the weight and maintain that loss in a way that works for you. If you cut out just 100 calories a day you could lose 10 pounds in a year.

4. Take it slow
Losing weight too fast can take a toll on your nervous system, making you feel sluggish, drained, and sick. When you drop a lot of weight quickly, you’re actually losing mostly water and muscle rather than fat. Aim to lose ½ to 1kg a week to ensure healthy weight loss.

5. Keep track
Short-term goals, like wanting to fit into a bikini for the summer, usually don’t work as well as goals like wanting to feel more confident or become healthier for your children’s sakes. Keep a food journal or weigh yourself regularly. Find and use tools that help keep you motivated. Stay focused: when frustration and temptation strike, concentrate on the many benefits you will reap from being healthier and leaner.

6. And remember...
... A spoonful of sugar helps the waistline go down. A team of scientists at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh found that a low-fat, high-carbohydrate diet (containing sugar) combined with physical activity achieved the greatest health benefits in overweight subjects. The study provided evidence that the exclusion of sugar, as is normally advised in a weight loss diet, is not necessary to achieve weight reduction. In fact, the taste of sugar may even help dieters stick to their eating plans.

What Soft Drinks have the Fewest <b>Calories</b>?

Most people find it extremely difficult to manage weight loss because they consume a number of drinks that are full of hidden calories.

Usually, soft drinks contain a large number of calories that hinder any planned weight loss and diet. Switching to sugar-free beverages is the best choice for healthier living.

Since it is very difficult to completely eliminate soft drinks from the diet, here are a number of healthier and low-calorie soft drinks that can still help maintain your diet goals and achieve weight loss.
Lemon Soda
: During the hot months, drinking lemon soda is probably the best option to quench the thirst as well as ensure that very little calories are consumed. There are a few options that one can choose from, and they are Diet 7-up, Sprite Zero, and Sierra Mist Free. Sierra Mist Free uses sweeteners such as aspartame.

Diet Pepsi Wild Cherry: One of the best low-sugar flavored diet colas is  Diet Pepsi Wild Cherry. This low-calorie soft drink is better than the regular version of Pepsi, and it also has an entirely new flavor to seduce dieters. The sweetener used is a mixture of aspartame and acesulfame potassium (Ace-k).

Dr. Pepper Cherry Chocolate Diet: If a dieter is looking for a low-calorie beverage, which is flavored and does not belong to the diet cola category, Dr. Pepper Cherry Chocolate Diet is among the best options.

For good health, it is essential to manage consumption of low-calorie soft drinks and also include a variety of other drinks that do not come under the carbonated soft drinks category. Many herbal teas and fruit drinks not only have very low calorie content, but may help weight loss by increasing the metabolism, reducing the fat by controlling food cravings, and providing antioxidants and essential nutrients.

Using Herbs for <b>Weight Loss</b>

In this world of extreme makeovers and desperate diets, there are two definitive actions that bring about effective long-term weight loss-(1) a high nutrition and high protein, low calorie meal plan and (2) consistent, regular exercise routine. Forget about magic pills that melt the fat away or sauna wraps that steam away inches. There are, however, herbs for weight loss that can supplement-not replace- healthy eating and exercise. These herbs can help increase the body’s digestive and metabolic efficiency and make easier the process of long-term health and weight management.

The principle behind weight loss is that energy intake must not exceed energy expenditure. What you eat must have fewer calories than what you put out in day to day activities. A body composed of lean muscle (built from protein and exercise) will use more calories than an unexercised body. There is every reason to maintain a solid exercise regimen and high protein consumption because you need both to turn your body into a fat-burning machine.

Some herbs that can help weight loss and make this process more efficient are Green Tea, Flaxseeds, Psyllium and Chromium.

Green Tea is not only a powerful anti-oxidant but a fat-burner as well. According to a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (January 2005), consuming green tea rich in catechins leads to a lowering of both body fat and cholesterol. These compounds enhance nervous system activity at the level of the fat cell, causing it to release more fat. In another recent study, one group of subjects was given green tea extract (with 150 mg of caffeine) and 375 mg of catechins three times a day.

A second group was given just 150 mg of caffeine alone and a third group was given a placebo. These subjects spent three 24 hour periods in an energy chamber during which they received their green tea, caffeine or placebo 3 times a day. Results show definitely that the green tea group burned the most energy-by almost 5 percent more when compared with those who received the placebo alone and 3.2 percent more than those who received the caffeine alone. In addition, fat burning was increased in the green tea group.

Researchers speculate that a special antioxidant compound in green tea called EEG may trigger fat oxidation and thermogenesis (fat burning). What is also interesting is that the maximum fat-dissolving capacity of green tea comes from the tea in concentrate form, which provides the benefits of 5-6 cups of tea in a single dose of tea powder. Green tea is an herb that has demonstrated effectiveness in encouraging weight loss.

Flaxseeds provide essential fatty acids which are building blocks the body uses to make fats. The body must get various kinds of fats ( fish oil, flaxseeds oil) not only to ensure proper health but to stabilize blood sugar level. Stabilized blood sugar means stabilized appetite. Unusual hunger and food cravings develop in people who do not consume sufficient essential fats. These people often turn to a high consumption of carbphydrates ( bagels, donuts, chips) because their bodies are on a frantic search for the missing nutrient-essential fats. Moreover, the body has an intelligence of its own; when it is deprived of fats, the body will lower its metabolic rate, store fat as well as make fat. A body deprived of essential fats will turn into a fat-producing machine. Flaxseeds are therefore another form of herbal tools for weight loss.

Psyllium is a soluble fiber that comes from the small reddish black seeds of the “Plantago Psyllium” plant. Psyllium seeds not only help ease constipation, they are effective in lowering cholesterol and promoting weight loss when used in conjunction with exercise and healthy eating. Psyllium helps stabilize sugar in the blood which also controls food cravings. The bulk in psyllium adds to the sensation of fullness and satiety when it is taken in its recommended dose:1-3 tsp of powdered psyllium dissolved in water taken 3 times a day before meals. In a British study, women who took psyllium with water 3 hours before a meal consumed less fat and fewer calories during the meal.

Chromium is a trace mineral found in whole grains, potatoes, prunes, nuts and brewer’s yeast. It seems to help the body use insulin more effeciently so that normal blood sugar levels are maintained. Chromium also helps the body break down protein and fat. In a recent study, people consuming 400mcg of chromium picolinate a day lost 6 pounds over 3 months while another group receiving a placebo lost only 3 pounds. The most significant aspect of the study was that the weight lost by those taking the herbal supplement chromium was in the form of body fat, not muscle.

While all four herbs have demonstrated that they can help promote weight loss, they are by no means magic pills and should be taken in conjunction with a solid nutrition and exercise program.

Ways to manage your <b>weight loss</b>

During her lunch hour each Wednesday, Sue Phillips, 38, steps onto a scale for a weigh-in. And she is not alone: at least 15 of her co-workers take turns climbing onto a scale, and then scribble the numbers that pop up into a little book chronicling their weight-loss journey.

Personal trainer Terri Polacca, works with client Helen Cox, Lawrence at Curves, 610 Kasold Drive. The Lawrence mother of three went to Pinnacle Career Institute to study the trade after leaving her position as a lead teacher for an area day care program.

“Some weeks I won’t see any fluctuation and other times I’ll see that I’ve dropped two pounds and that helps me get back on track,” Phillips says. “Or sometimes it just takes gaining a few pounds to get back on track.”

Phillips is a member of Weight Watchers — just one weight-loss option available locally.

Weight Watchers’ goal is for members to achieve a healthy, sustainable lifestyle. The cornerstones of the program are eating healthy, staying in motion and sharing successes and setbacks with other members. Weight Watchers operates on a point system: roughly 50 calories equals one point. Daily point allowances are based on gender, weight, height and activity level. Phillips, for instance, is a female who wants to lose 40 pounds, and who’s anchored to a desk while at work, putting her in the sedentary category for activity level. She’s granted 22 points per day.

And to keep on task, Phillips and other Weight Watchers members attend meetings composed of other people who are either focused on losing weight or have already successfully achieved weight-loss goals. Joan Gunter, ambassador for Weight Watchers in Kansas, is quick to tout statistics that prove the benefits of attending meetings.

“People who attend meetings lose three times more weight than people who try to do it themselves,” says Gunter. “We teach members to make healthy and sustainable choices, which will become habits.”

The program emphasizes activity level, encouraging members to get moving any way they can. Even household chores such as scouring the bathtub, or scrubbing a tall stack of dishes count as calorie burners.

Phillips walks two miles per day, and when she follows through she can eat more that day: calories burned, equals calories earned. And once Weight Watchers members reach their goal weight, meetings are free — as long as they keep within range of their goal weight.

Results fetched from dieting are usually not sustainable, says Staci Hendrickson, a dietitian at Healthy Balance, 535 Gateway. Hendrickson says restrictive diets are damaging in more ways than one. Typically 40 percent of all eating disorders begin with a diet, she says.

Hendrickson calls herself a nutrition therapist. And her client roster is composed of people who are fed up with dieting and yo-yo weight loss.

“My overall goal is for clients to make peace with food, feel good about exercising, feel good when they exercise and to meet their natural weight,” says Hendrickson.

Hendrickson says there are a lot of distorted images of beauty floating around — for men and women — and it’s important for people to aim for a realistic, healthy body weight.

Hendrickson embraces what’s called the intuitive eating approach. Intuitive eating categorizes food choices into two groups: external and internal. An external cue could trigger you to wolf down an entire cheese burger, even when your tummy hurts midway, because you want to finish it; you eat until the external cue tells you to stop, i.e. the food is gone, not until your hunger is satisfied. An internal cue is legitimate hunger or a true desire for the food. The goal of intuitive eating is to get people to eat primarily from internal cues. Hendrickson wants clients to recognize when they are hungry, to eat when their appetite kicks in, and to stop once their hunger is satiated.

Hendrickson also says it’s important to incorporate physical activity into weight-loss goals, but she emphasizes the importance of finding an exercise that’s enjoyable. For instance, one of Hendrickson’s clients joined a dodge-ball league instead of joining a gym. Exercise should not be viewed as a chore, she says.

Terri Driscoll, owner of Curves, doesn’t see exercise as unpleasant. In fact, after years of working out in gyms without fetching much enjoyment, Driscoll was so delighted with the workouts at Curves, she decided to buy the business last January.

Curves, which exclusively targets women, offers a 30-minute workout of resistance training that knocks out both strength training and cardio in one go.

“It’s something you can easily do. You can burn up to 500 calories on your circuit,” says Driscoll. “You don’t have to worry about what you look like when you go here, First thing in the morning you can just brush your teeth, jump in the car and (drive) here.”

Obesity in the UK: The latest developments

Obesity in the UK: The latest developments

Friday 22nd October 2010

Britain's obesity problem is the subject of a debate which seems never ending. Particularly in recent years, as awareness of the issue has grown, the scare stories and shock statistics seem to have arrived non-stop.

In the past few months, however, as the UK has been gripped by elections, spending cuts and other apparently more pressing issues, the discussion of our expanding waistlines seems to have gone a little quiet.

Many would describe the obesity 'epidemic' as a matter of urgency - and one which has major implications on other areas of the nation's health, not to mention the strain it places on Britain's health services.

So what is the latest to have emerged on the subject of our country's weight problem? And what should dieticians, cardiologists and other concerned health professionals be aware of in terms of policy to curb the issue?

A recent study conducted at Aberdeen University raised a point with which most of the medically trained would agree: an obesity crisis cannot be solved with exercise alone – people's eating habits will also need to be addressed.

The researchers claimed that Britain's overweight epidemic will not be reversed by simply encouraging people to visit the gym more often, because working individuals have increasingly little time to spare.

According to the energetics research group, a clinically obese person with a body mass index (BMI) of 35 could move swiftly towards a much healthier weight and BMI of 22, by reducing their calorie intake by one third.

"That is equivalent to exercising for around five hours a day. That is not realistic," commented Professor John Speakman, who led the study.

Professor Speakman's team discovered that, contrary to widespread belief, British people's lives have not become more sedentary in recent decades. The scientists found that physical activity had actually remained constant for at least the past 25 years, though obesity figures have rocketed.

Since 1985, the average British male has burned off 1,380 calories each day through exercise, compared with a typical 950 calories in women. The reason for soaring obesity rates, Professor Speakman said, is linked with people eating more high-calorie foods, rather than exercising less.

"Promoting exercise is a good idea, but if you want to tackle the obesity epidemic it is not the solution. Weight loss is not a key benefit from exercise," he said, adding that a person could burn just as many calories by foregoing a small sandwich as they could by taking a one-hour jog.

It is thought that around one-quarter of the UK's adult population and one-fifth of children are currently overweight, though the figure is expected to keep rising. An estimated 30,000 premature deaths in Britain are linked with obesity each year.

"You cannot exercise your way out of the obesity epidemic. It would take an enormous intervention in physical exercise," Professor Speakman argued.

"It is important for policymakers to realise that if they want to promote weight loss in overweight and obese people, the most effective way is through healthy eating and diets," he added.

Under recent proposals from health ministers and the food industry, however, this kind of improved education could be brought one step closer.

Health secretary Andrew Lansley wants restaurants and takeaway food outlets across the country to begin advising their customers as to how many calories are in every dish on their menu.

He aims to encourage more people to choose healthier options, which could potentially reduce the estimated £4.5 billion of NHS money spent annually to treat patients with diet-related illnesses.

"Our aim is to give people the help and advice they need to adopt a healthy lifestyle. I want to make it as easy as possible for them to do that. That's why we're working with industry to bring in calorie information on menus," Mr Lansley said.

He added: "As a nation we are too unhealthy. We cost the NHS billions of pounds a year through bad diet, lack of exercise and poor lifestyle choices."

There could be one major flaw with the proposed scheme, however. It is not intended as a mandatory requirement, but rather a voluntary initiative. Furthermore, calorie counts tell only part of the story.

Jackie Schneider, from food and farming charity Sustain, suggested that the programme should be extended to incorporate details of fat, salt and sugar content. " Our experience of voluntary schemes is that they are less effective," she told the Guardian.

In 2008, fast food retailer Wimpy added calorie counts to menus in its 160 UK restaurants. Clare Starling, the company's marketing manager, told the newspaper that very little change in customer behaviour had been observed.

"We haven't noticed any changes in the proportions of burgers we sell compared to salads or baked potatoes. Calorie counts are interesting, but not a decision-changer for the consumer. People want to stick to their favourites," she explained.

It seems the government is intent on supporting the population and health professionals in tackling the UK's weight problems. It also appears, however, that there is some way to go before any noticeable improvement is seen.

Tips About Green Tea Health Benefits And <b>Weight Loss</b> | Stress <b>...</b>

Are you one of the hundreds of thousands of people who need to lose weight in order to stay healthy? But you just can’t afford to spend $10.00 a day or more on special weight loss packages. How would you like to learn about the inexpensive green tea health benefits and how it can help you lose weight? This article will give you some down to earth tips about green tea and its benefits.

Green tea health benefits are almost a given. But as always when you are about to start a special diet with a supplement of any kind; you should always check with your doctor. When you do this you will know you are not endangering your health.

A great many people who are overweight are prone to developing high blood pressure and other related cardiovascular diseases. If you fall into this category you may not be able to use other diet supplements due to the increased danger of kicking your heart rate up higher. However, green tea will not increase your heart rate.

Recent studies have shown that green tea can help you lose weight by increasing your energy levels and speed up the conversion of fat into energy. As you gain this increase in your energy levels you will be able to safely step up your exercise program. The increased exercise will stimulate your metabolic rate which in turn will burn your calorie intake more efficiently.

One of the ingredients found in green tea is called catechin. A good number of scientists have theorized the large amount of catechin is what enables the green tea to have a dramatic impact on your energy levels. Some believe it increases the output of energy by as much as four percent.

Another of the green tea health benefits is its amazing ability to help the body eliminate toxic body waste. When it acts as an antioxidant it is believed it helps improve your body’s immunity system. And the end result of this action is you have less chance of becoming ill.

One thing you will notice with the green tea is the quick burning of calories. This may tend to increase your craving for certain foods to replace the calories you have already burned. It’s important for you to remember to control your calorie intake. If you should increase the calorie intake you are decreasing the chances of you losing any weight.

Green tea and a controlled calorie intake should allow you to have a gradual loss of weight over a extended period of time. However, if you should want to increase the weight loss more quickly, you reduce your calorie intake even further. In the mean while you would want to increase the amount of exercise which will also help speed up the weight loss.

There is one little drawback to green tea. You may be put off by the taste, however as you continue to drink it you will get used to it. If you just can’t stomach it you can always try the green tea extract.

By sticking with your controlled diet, exercise and the green tea, you stand an excellent chance of losing all those extra pounds and keeping them off. Clearly the green tea health benefits far out weigh the one little drawback of a different taste.

The Dangers of <b>Weight Loss</b> | Health For You

Obsession with weight loss can be devastating, and may even be dangerous. The fear of fat has driven many individuals to take drastic, and even dangerous, measures aimed at weight loss.

Obsession with weight loss and dieting has become a national crisis. The health hazards and dangers of weight loss are not to be taken lightly.

Weight loss is a health-related endeavor. As such, it should be subject to accountability, clinical testing, and stringent regulation. Unfortunately, this is not the case. As a result, high-risk patients are often given high-risk treatments.

The only explanation for the above phenomenon is that the billion-dollar weight loss industry and its entrenchment with Congress policy makers are all behind it. They want you to lose weight to the extent of completely disregarding the health hazards and dangers of weight loss.

Dieting and weight loss are the goals of many individuals. But beware! Overweight is bad enough for your health, but overcoming overweight may be even worse. It could be a case of jumping from the frying pan into the fire. Indeed, weight loss can be dangerous, and even deadly.

Sudden death syndrome does happen to dieters. Women are more prone to sudden death syndrome than men. Sudden death syndrome is often due to total and prolonged fasting, too-low-calorie dieting, obesity surgery, and other health complications resulting from drastic measures to lose weight.

Besides sudden death syndrome, people who use nicotine to lose weight may face other heath issues, such as heart disease and lung cancer. In spite of the potential health risks in smoking, many people opt to use nicotine to lose weight, because nicotine can accelerate loss of calories by as much as 10 percent if they spoke 24 cigarettes a day. Sadly, many people focus their attention only on the immediate result of using nicotine to lose weight without any regard for their health issues down the road. Do not use nicotine to lose weight.

Many adolescents and young adults are so obsessed with getting the perfect body image that they may go to the extreme of using induced vomiting to lose those extra pounds. In addition, the use of laxatives, such as water pills, has potential health hazards in that they may lose potassium, which is critical to building muscle mass and normal heart functioning. Dehydration is yet another health problem. Worst, these extreme measures in weight reduction may lead to eating disorders, such as anorexia and bulimia.

Dieting is the most common method of weight loss. There are many fad diets, many of which are too low in calories that they are tantamount to a “starvation” diet. Calorie deprivation can lead to depression, development of gallstones, cardiac disorders, anemia, hair loss, and a host of health problems and complications.

Many individuals want a quick fix to their overweight problems, and they turn to oral and injected medications aimed at weight reduction. Some of these drugs may contain dangerous chemicals, such as dexfenfluramine, which can cause brain damage.

Exercise is an excellent weight-loss aid. But compulsive exercise is something else. To some, exercise takes priority over everything else in their lives. Compulsive exercise often results in stress injuries.

Finally, many obese individuals resort to surgery to eliminate their weight problems. Unfortunately, obesity surgery does not solve weight problems. In the first two years or so, some patients may have their weight under control. But many late complications begin to surface down the road. Obesity surgery for weight loss is dangerous and should be the last option in weight loss.

Weight loss is a complex health problem. As such, solutions are many, but they are far from being simple and safe. Just don’t jump from the frying pan into the fire!

Stephen Lau is a researcher and writer. He has recently published a 300-page e-book entitled “YOUNGER AND HEALTHIER FOR LONGER – A Handbook for Both Men and Women” which focuses on the physical, the mental, the intellectual, the emotional, and the spiritual aspects of the SELF to attain weight loss and body image. Heart rate is only one of the guides to <b>exercise</b> intensity

Dear Dr. Donohue: I have some questions about heart rate and its relation to weight loss, health and exercise. I am 53 and weigh 158 pounds. My goal is to lose one pound a week. I work out four to five days a week. My routine is challenging. I sweat. I can talk but cannot sing. My heart is beating fast. During strength classes, my heart rate peaks at 166. During a cardio session, it's between 155 and 165.

My doctor says not to worry about my heart rate as long as I do not feel any pain. My trainer says I should be working out at a less-intense pace. Is my heart rate out of line? Does less-intense exercise burn more fat than high-

intensity exercise? -- J.H.

Dr. Donohue: Using heart rate as a guide to exercise intensity involves subtracting your age from 220 to find your maximum heart rate. For you, that is: 220 minus 53 equals 167. For training purposes, exercise should raise your heartbeat to a level between 60 percent and

80 percent of your maximum heart rate. For you, that is 100 to 134.

When you're lifting weights, your heart rate is going to soar beyond those limits, because you are exerting to your maximum for a short time. That's OK. It's safe.

For aerobic exercise, you want to exercise within your training zone:

100 to 134. Aerobic exercise is the kind of exercise where large muscles are moving for a prolonged period of time,

30 or more minutes. Running, jogging, brisk walking, swimming and bike riding are examples of

aerobic exercise.

A beginner should keep the heart rate at the lower level. A more advanced exerciser aims for the higher range. Even exceeding the higher range is safe if you feel fine during the exercise. Don't become obsessed with heart rate. You can gauge your exercise intensity by how you feel. That's as reliable as counting your heart rate. You should not be panting for air (being able to carry on a conversation is a good guide), you should break a slight sweat and you shouldn't feel muscle pain.

Your trainer tells you that you burn more fat at less-intense levels of exercise. That's true. A slightly higher proportion of your energy is supplied by fat during lower-intensity exercise. However, the total number of fat calories burned is much greater at high-intensity exercise

Go easy with the heart rate guide, or you'll drive yourself crazy. Use perceived exertion -- how you feel -- as the way to judge exercise intensity. Your heart rates are not out of line. Your heart is healthy.

Dr. Donohue regrets that he is unable to answer individual letters, but he will incorporate them in his column whenever possible. Readers may write him or request an order form of available health newsletters at P.O. Box 536475, Orlando, FL 32853-6475. Readers may also order health newsletters from www .rbmamall.com.

How <b>Weight Loss</b> Works Effectively | Health For You

There are so many people who want to drop excess pounds quickly, trying to find that latest magic diet trick on how to reduce their weight rapidly. The weight loss industry have spent billions of dollars trying to make us thinking that weight loss is a complex, overwhelming process that only can be achieved using their latest and greatest “cure” products. Generally, these “state-of-the-art” diets and cures are not only expensive but many times also unhealthy. But those people who are able to think “out-of-the-box” and not simple using the latest “height of fashion” weight loss products, those who are open for simple and healthy weight loss methods, tend to be the winners and will understand how weight loss works effectively.  They quickly realize that making systematic and not drastic unsustainable changes of their eating patterns and type food leads to a permanent weight loss, much more than any kind of weigh loss pill, surgery or use of the ultimate weight loss machine.

Although both, diet and exercise are important for burning fat and reducing weight, the emphasis should be on a proven healthy loss diet. Just imagine: to burn the 540 calories of a Big Mac, a 155-pound person needs to run about one hour without interruption. Instead of exercising the extra calories away it is much easier and realistic to apply a diet that is able to accelerate your metabolism, thus burning excessive calories. People are succeeding if they have a grasp of how to eat and – even more important – if they are truly motivated for a change in their life. Those who are able to make meaningful and sustainable lifestyle changes will obtain a lasting and healthy weight loss and will avoid what is called the “boomerang effect”, bouncing right back to what they were before once the diet finished as going back to their normal eating habits. Important to mention in this context is that people always should consult with their physician before making any significant change in their diet or exercise. This is imperative in particular for those with health problems like diabetics or cardiac diseases. In particular risky are some of the low calorie diets or those telling you to stop eating a certain food group like carbohydrates or proteins. These diets might result in serious deficiencies of micronutrients. In fact, eating low calories is one of the worst things that people can do to their body. It slows down the body’s fat burning engine and after an initial weight loss during the first few days the weight loss comes to a halt (known as “dieting plateau”).

A major problem with diets is that people are expected to make large adjustments to the food that they prefer to consume. And the prescribed foods are often not that pleasant. Because people enjoy their foods they eat, going on a restrictive diet will always be a struggle.

One of the smartest solutions for an effective and healthy weight loss and answer to all of the above-mentioned hints and drawbacks is called Calorie Shifting or Calorie Cycling. This dieting technique, published for the first time under the name “Fat Loss 4 Idiots”, has become one of the most popular dieting techniques for rapid healthy weight loss. The main reasons for the success of this healthy loss diet:  it is very easy to follow, it is affecting negatively your health, it avoids the dieting plateau effect, it is sustainable and the most important: it helps to lose weight rapidly.

This Calorie Shifting diet has never been acknowledged by the weight loss industry, though, because low calorie food accounts for a multi-billion dollar market in revenue and there is not a lot of money they can make with calorie shifting as with calorie shifting there’s no need for people to buy special kinds of foods or restrict themselves in any kind of way.

The basics of this diet are already practiced for decades by bodybuilders and other body-conscious people. This group of people is applying acute calorie cycling, consuming a high-calorie diet for 2 weeks followed by a low-calorie diet for 2 weeks, and then repeating this pattern over and over again. This way of applying the diet can offer significant advantages to bodybuilders seeking enhanced muscle growth without the increase in body fat which occur with most long-term nutritional programs.

Updated Version of the Diet Solution Program Promotes Eating Healthy to Lose <b>...</b>

Florham Park, NJ (PRWEB) October 21, 2010

Certified nutritionist, exercise specialist and author Isabel De Los Rios scientifically based weight loss plan has been updated to include more easy to follow meal plans, helping dieters identify food combinations designed to boost metabolism naturally for eating healthy and losing weight permanently. The Diet Solution Program has helped 50,000 people worldwide lose weight for good http://www.thedietsolutionprogram.com/.

Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution and Michelle Obama’s Eating Healthy Food campaign are both working to educate our over-busy nation on the negative impact prolonged consumption of fast, convenient and prepackaged foods are having on our bodies and our health. Both efforts have a vision of overcoming the obesity epidemic by dramatically changing the way Americans eat.

These works aren’t in vain: an estimated 67% of Americans aged 20 and older are either overweight or obese, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Worse still is the discovery by the University of Texas Medical Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology that more than 50% of U.S. women who are currently categorized as overweight by American standards, are actually obese when categorized by international standards.

Isabel De Los Rios understands the difficulties encountered by the overweight and obese. She herself carried an extra thirty pounds on her petite frame just ten years ago. Although De Los Rios worked to limit carbs, count calories, and eat only low-fat “healthy” foods, she failed to reverse the numbers on the scale.

Motivated by a family history of type II diabetes, De Los Rios worked to learn all she could about food and its impact on the body. Eventually she discovered that by combining certain foods she could boost metabolism naturally, which enabled her to lose those stubborn extra pounds and keep them off food good.

De Los Rios applied the information she learned to slim down to help others achieve their health and nutrition goals. Over the past ten years 50,000 people worldwide have experienced permanent weight loss with the aid of her scientifically based weight loss plan The Diet Solution Program. This all natural approach to weight loss focuses on metabolism-boosting foods to promote eating healthy http://www.thedietsolutionprogram.com/ .

The recently updated version of The Diet Solution Program includes detailed, easy to follow meal plans designed to boost metabolism naturally and help dieters lose weight for good all without the use of pills, shakes or pre-packaged foods.

Weight Loss Tips for Kids

In a previous post we shared some weight loss tips for teens and talked about the major causes of teenage obesity. In this post we are going to give you some ideas (to the parents) on what you can do to help your kids maintain their normal weight. Unfortunately the problem of obesity starts on a very early age and the sooner you can deal with it the better will be for the overall health of your children.

If your child is spending more and more time in front of the TV or playing video games then it’s important to make sure they get enough exercise to stay fit and healthy.  Obesity amongst children is becoming an ever greater issue especially as it’s known to cause other health problems such as diabetes.

It’s often difficult for parents to be strict about what their children eat. We all want our kids to have everything they wish for but in reality this isn’t always good for them. Even so, weight loss tips for kids shouldn’t include trying to get your child to understand calories. Instead you need to encourage healthy eating and reasonable portion sizes.

Fortunately, stopping weight gain and reducing weight in children is much easier than many people think. In most cases you’ll need to cut back on the amount of food the child consumes by only a small amount. For example, if you want to stop your child gaining weight then you’ll probably only need to reduce his or her calorie intake by around 50-100 calories per day. This is easy to do by slightly reducing potion sizes and replacing unhealthy snacks with healthy ones.

The best way for your child to lose weight is through a combination of a healthy diet and exercise so in this respect the techniques are no different to that you would use for an adult. However, you definitely don’t want to make your child conscious of being overweight so the changes should be made subtly. For example, there are many kids’ sports teams across the country and this can be a fun way for the child to burn extra calories. If your child isn’t interested in sports then taking them on regular walks or buying them a new skateboard could be a different way of getting them to exercise whilst having fun.

Another important technique for getting your child to lose weight is to set a good example. If your kids see that you regularly eat unhealthy snacks and huge meals then they will think this is normal. You should be a role model by eating healthily and exercising regularly. Not only will this set the right example for your kids but it’ll also be beneficial to your overall health!

Fast weight loss tips for eveyone

No matter what your age, nearly everyone needs fast weight loss tips. This may be a child struggling with their weight or their busy parent. Weight loss is universally achieved through basic exercise and healthy eating no matter what your age.

Weight-loss for children can be quite difficult. It is a tough job to convince someone to lose weight when they may not want to. However, for a child’s health it is vital to establish healthy eating habits and exercise early on. Many kids spend way too much time watching television and playing video games. It may be a tough sell; however, it is the parent’s job to get them outside playing or enrolled in sports. Organizations such as the YMCA have facilities for use where kids can play basketball and other fun activities. You can also change your child’s eating habits to aid in their weight-loss. Keep healthier snacks around the house such as pretzels and fresh prepared vegetables. These slight changes in your child’s health can lead to much-needed weight loss.

For the elderly, often times, it is easy to get into a routine. This may be slow-paced hobby or visiting with friends. However, once retired you should use your added free time to stay active to keep in shape. A moderate exercise regimen can have many health benefits and will increase energy. Find a friend who enjoys walking and make that a morning habit. With age the body starts to deteriorate; however, by staying active and exercising this will greatly reduce body aches and will prolong your life.

Young parents are often pressed for time in the day to eat right and exercise. Time management is important in all aspects of life and this is also true with weight loss. Try to use one evening a week to plan your meals and even prepare them. Decide on some low fat meal ideas and prepare several of them for the week. You could then freeze these meals and they are ready to go for the rest of the week. Simply pop them in the microwave or oven and you will have a delicious low-calorie meal in no time. Also, include the kids in your exercise. Start going on more long family walks to help yourself and the kids. In addition, don’t be afraid to play games such as hide and seek and tag with the kids in the yard. This will benefit everyone.

Green Tea Fat Burner for Weight Loss

Welcome back and here is another original weight loss article for WeightLossGo.com which may not, as is the case for all article published on this site, be copied and published elsewhere being protected by copyright law. This time I want to take a look at the type of green tea fat burner for weight loss that has grown rapidly in popularity in recent years, and in particular the interesting organic green tea known as Tava Tea, since I’m a paid affiliate of theirs and it makes for interesting reading as well.

green tea for weight lossTava Tea, being 100 percent organic retains far more of its health giving properties than many other brands of green tea, which makes it an excellent choice as a hot beverage to not only relax with and enjoy for itself, but to combine that with its health giving properties and its rather interesting ability to help your body to burn fat and reduce bad LDL cholesterol. Also, unlike many other kinds of weight loss teas, Tava comes in high quality pyramid bags that brew faster than conventional teabags because they allow the hot water to circulate through the tea leaves more freely.

Tests have shown that drinking Tava Tea slows down the production of insulin by the body after ingesting carbohydrates and also sweet foods. By reducing insulin production, the possibility of weight gain is also reduced as insulin is the hormone that is responsible for causing your body to store fat. So by drinking a cup of Tava Tea around fifteen minutes after eating any fatty foods, high GI carbs or sweet foods, the chances of gaining weight are greatly reduced.

This wonderful tea is also perfect for maintaining a peaceful state of mind and promoting inner calm. The exclusive Tava Tea mix consists of the important amino acid L-theanine. This helps to balance Dopamine and Serotonin which are neutron-transmitting chemicals that control your mood.

Further Research Information

Research that was conducted by Dr. Kenichi Yanagimoto as long ago as 2004 uncovered that drinking green tea produced a 50% reduction in free radicals in test subjects. Free radicals are attributed with aging, so this is another very good reason to learn to love drinking green tea. Tava Tea has also undergone tests and has been found to ease digestion and help with digestive problems, while reducing abdominal bloating and has been shown to burn as much as 2.5 times more calories than most generic brands of green tea. Combined with this is the already well known health benefits that come with drinking green tea regularly, so it’s a positive step to take in your own personal journey to better health as well as looking to losing some weight naturally.

Here are some very good reasons to buy Tava Tea:

100% organic weight loss teaHelps burn fatReduces cholesterol levelsThe strongest weight loss tea ever createdCertificated by CERES and USDA180 day money back guaranteeFree Shipping

Lastly, if you do decide that Tava Tea is something that you want to try for yourself, you’ll be happy to know that it comes with a full money back guarantee. Better still, unlike some less than honest competitors who peddle some green tea products, the Tava Tea company does not offer any tempting free trials where you’re asked for your credit card details and later find your being billed every month! They will only charge you for the tea that you order and that’s all. So you can rest assured you won’t be locking yourself into anything you don’t want to be.

Does Alli Work as a Weight Loss Pill?

Welcome back and in this original post on weightlossgo.com (do not copy or publish elsewhere under copyright law) I want to take a look at the weight loss pill known as Alli and whether it can help you to lose weight, or not. As a paid affiliate of one of the vendors that sells Alli, buy.com, I feel its important to present my trademark unbiased and balanced review of the product that I am also promoting through this article.

There are plenty of weight loss pills on the market these days and it might seem like a confusing state of affairs for anyone who is overweight and feeling a little inundated with the vast choice that is before you. So hopefully, this Alli review will go some way to dispelling any uncertainties surrounding this particular supplement and help you decide if it can help you.

According to the blurb on official looking websites promoting this product, Alli is good for adults who want to lose weight and are overweight with a BMI of 28 or over. As long as you understand the importance of eating sensibly when you’re trying to lose that excess weight, it can help. It goes on to read that if you know what it feels like to get onto the bathroom scales and not see much evidence of weight loss as you were expecting, then this pill could be exactly what you need.

So what is that saying to you? Well, all that says is that as long as you know that you should eat right but you’re not seeing good results with your weight loss strategy, then supplementing with Alli can help make it work better. Here’s is some more info on what exactly it is and what it does:

Alli is a weight loss capsule that is intended to be used in conjunction with a support program designed to help improve your strategy’s chances of success at losing weight. It has been clinically proven that by including Alli with a calorie controlled, reduced fat diet, it can help improve your weight loss by as much as 50 percent. It works by preventing a proportion of the fat you consume in food from being absorbed by your body. That means that for every 2 pounds you lose by eating healthily, by using Alli as well you can lose a further 1 pound. It is also worth noting that Alli is the very first weight loss aid available only in pharmacies that is licensed throughout the European Union.

The information provided by studies conducted into this product seem to prove the claims that by adding Alli to a low calorie, low fat diet, you can increase the weight you lose by as much as half again. However, that information comes from non-independent studies, so they could be skewed in favor of the product.

The best way is to try them for yourself. That way, you will see whether they are effective or not. It is a relatively inexpensive diet supplement so getting a month supply is affordable and if you don’t see results within that time, you haven’t really lost much. On the flip side, if they work well for you, then you have found a good product that is licensed in the EU and certified safe to use for most people, but read the label first just to be sure. Click the image to the right for a great deal and a great price on this great diet supplement.

I Want To Lose Weight But I Have No Motivation

There’s no doubt that the hardest part of losing weight is staying motivated. Weight loss isn’t something that happens overnight – you need to stick at it if you want to see results. Most people know how to lose weight so the main reason everyone isn’t slim and healthy is that it’s difficult to keep up a weight loss regime for a long period of time. Here are some tips for staying motivated whilst losing weight.

1.    The first thing you need to do is work out why you want to lose weight in the first place. Is it because you want to be generally healthier? Are you worried about the way you look? Is it because there’s an important wedding coming up? Everyone is different and you need to decide why losing weight is important to you personally before working out how to increase your motivation.
2.    The next tip is to work out some long, medium and short term goals. Your long term goal should be the final amount of weight you want to lose. This can be as much as you want as long as you understand it’ll take time to get there. The medium and short term goals should provide you with targets to aim towards in an attempt to reach your final target. Setting smaller targets is a great way of increasing your motivation because it allows you to measure your progress.
3.    Another great way to stay motivated is to have a weight loss partner. If you know someone who wants to lose weight then you can keep each other company while exercising, keep track of what the other is eating and provide support for each other. If you know you have to answer to someone other than yourself it can make a big difference.
4.    Entering a sporting event such as a fun run or bike race will keep you on track when exercising and provide something to work towards. It can be hard to keep exercising on a daily basis if there is no end goal. Just be careful not to aim too high to begin with.
5.    Many people find that keeping a journal of their weight loss efforts can help them to stay motivated. The useful thing about a diary is that if you’re having a bad day you can look back and see how much progress you’ve made. Sometimes it can be difficult to gauge progress through memory alone and a diary solves this problem. You don’t have to write in it every day unless you want to. If you would like to make the most out of a diary then you could even attach photos every few weeks to see the changes in your body shape. There’s nothing more motivational than knowing you’re going to have to see yourself naked on a regular basis!
6.    Also, most people find it easier to get motivated to exercise in the morning. After a long days work nothing seems more appealing than lying down on the sofa watching TV for a few hours. If you never want to exercise after work then try to get up a bit earlier to do a 20 minute cardiovascular workout.
7.    Try to do something every day. Even if it’s only a few press-ups you should keep your momentum going by exercising each and every day.

Ultimately, success and failure when it comes to weight loss depends on your motivation. If you can find a way to keep motivated over a long period of time then you’re well on your way to losing as much weight as you want.

Weight loss stories: Parasitic Worms for Weight Loss in Hong Kong

The fitness industry in Hong Kong is big. This is because of the increasing obesity rate in the country due to sedentary lifestyle, fast food availability, and long working hours. Hong Kong locals have tried a lot of weight loss innovations available including diet pills, body suits, exercise machines, fat-burning soap, and just about anything.

A new weight loss craze in Hong Kong is the ingestion of the eggs of a certain parasitic worm called Ascaris (Ascaris Lumbricoides).  Health Officials confirmed the news and further explained that a certain Chinese-language website has been promoting the use of products that contain worm eggs that promises fast weight loss results.

A representative from the Hong Kong’s Department of Health said that there is no supporting study or solid evidence that the use of parasitic worms is an effective way of losing weight. Though one of the signs of Ascaris infestation is weight loss, this effect happens at a later stage where these worms can do more harm on the body than good.

The health officer further explained that Ascaris Lumbricoides or commonly called as roundworm is a giant intestinal parasitic worm that could grow up to 15 to 35 inches long and could produce more than 200,000 eggs per day inside the body. Furthermore, these worms could cause diarrhea, stomach pain, distention, and malnutrition because they eat up most of the nutrients from the body and could lacerate intestinal walls using their sharp teeth.

With their uncontrollable population growth, these worms could roll up in a ball also called as “Ascaris bolus” that could cause an obstruction on the intestinal, biliary, and pancreatic ducts. Obstructions on these pathways cause serious complications which can be fatal. Moreover, these worms could migrate to other parts of the body like the lungs, causing respiratory problems.

The DOH-HK spokesman urged the people to consult a health professional before starting on any “special” diet so people will know the pros, cons and risks of that particular weight loss program. He also added that eating less and exercising more is still the healthiest and most effective means of losing weight.

For those who have already ingested the eggs or have Ascaris adults living in their intestines, you would need to contact your nearest healthcare provider or the DOH-HK immediately for de-worming and counseling. However, for worse cases of infestation, the patient may need to undergo a surgery for manual removal of the worms.

Weight loss – How to calculate my ideal weight?

As a weight loss advisor in a fitness gym, it has been our policy that every new member will be assessed by me. Because of that, I have met a lot of people with different weight who have been struggling with weight loss for a long time. Some people are aware of their current weight status; some are in denial, while others just don’t care.

Many people have a different perception of what is the ideal weight. Some say it is a hundred pounds while others say it’s one hundred fifty. These numbers may be correct, but do you know that the ideal weight is determined together with the height?

During physical assessment of new members, one of the basic things I discuss with them is their Body Mass Index or BMI. Through BMI, I am able to determine if the client is underweight, normal, overweight, obese, or extremely obese. This way, together with their fitness instructor, we are able to formulate an effective weight management program specifically designed for that particular client.

Body Mass Index or BMI is a widely used tool by health professionals to categorize an individual to a certain weight group. This method is defined as the ratio of body weight and height. It is usually correlated with the percentage of fat deposits in the body, however people with increased muscle mass or those with larger body frame can also have an increased BMI.

There are three ways to measure a person’s BMI, the first equation is by dividing the weight in kilograms by the square of the height in meters. This is the simplest and universally used formula:

BMI = ( Weight in Kilograms / ( Height in Meters x Height in Meters ) )

Another way to get the person’s BMI is by dividing the person’s weight in pounds times 4.88 by the square of height in feet. The last option is by dividing the weight in pounds times 703 by the square of height in inches.

BMI = ( Weight in Pounds / ( Height in inches x Height in inches ) ) x 703

BMI = ( Weight in LB / ( Height in ft x Height in ft ) ) x 4.88

You may use any of the equations above, depending on which equation you are comfortable with. However, the first equation which is utilizing the SI unit of measure is highly recommended because it is what health professionals use.

After computing the BMI, the next step is to interpret the results. Look at your BMI and try to see where you BMI fit in to the following categories:

People with a BMI between18.5 – 24.9 are considered to have an ‘ideal weight’.And just little above that, i.e. BMI of 25 – 29.9, are categorized as Overweight. In the 2007 survey of the US Department of Health and Human Services, It has been recorded that 63% of the total population of America are overweight.People are facing weight issues in a different scale. However, the most alarming concern is the growing population of people who are overweight and obese. This problem has not only affected the adults but it has also affected the children as well.

It is very important for everyone to know how to calculate the ideal body weight because it can give you an indication if you need to eat more, eat less, or just continue eating the same amount of food. By doing so, you will be saving yourself the trouble of seeking medical interventions to help you add or lose weight.
