The Dangers of Weight Loss | Health For You

Obsession with weight loss can be devastating, and may even be dangerous. The fear of fat has driven many individuals to take drastic, and even dangerous, measures aimed at weight loss.

Obsession with weight loss and dieting has become a national crisis. The health hazards and dangers of weight loss are not to be taken lightly.

Weight loss is a health-related endeavor. As such, it should be subject to accountability, clinical testing, and stringent regulation. Unfortunately, this is not the case. As a result, high-risk patients are often given high-risk treatments.

The only explanation for the above phenomenon is that the billion-dollar weight loss industry and its entrenchment with Congress policy makers are all behind it. They want you to lose weight to the extent of completely disregarding the health hazards and dangers of weight loss.

Dieting and weight loss are the goals of many individuals. But beware! Overweight is bad enough for your health, but overcoming overweight may be even worse. It could be a case of jumping from the frying pan into the fire. Indeed, weight loss can be dangerous, and even deadly.

Sudden death syndrome does happen to dieters. Women are more prone to sudden death syndrome than men. Sudden death syndrome is often due to total and prolonged fasting, too-low-calorie dieting, obesity surgery, and other health complications resulting from drastic measures to lose weight.

Besides sudden death syndrome, people who use nicotine to lose weight may face other heath issues, such as heart disease and lung cancer. In spite of the potential health risks in smoking, many people opt to use nicotine to lose weight, because nicotine can accelerate loss of calories by as much as 10 percent if they spoke 24 cigarettes a day. Sadly, many people focus their attention only on the immediate result of using nicotine to lose weight without any regard for their health issues down the road. Do not use nicotine to lose weight.

Many adolescents and young adults are so obsessed with getting the perfect body image that they may go to the extreme of using induced vomiting to lose those extra pounds. In addition, the use of laxatives, such as water pills, has potential health hazards in that they may lose potassium, which is critical to building muscle mass and normal heart functioning. Dehydration is yet another health problem. Worst, these extreme measures in weight reduction may lead to eating disorders, such as anorexia and bulimia.

Dieting is the most common method of weight loss. There are many fad diets, many of which are too low in calories that they are tantamount to a “starvation” diet. Calorie deprivation can lead to depression, development of gallstones, cardiac disorders, anemia, hair loss, and a host of health problems and complications.

Many individuals want a quick fix to their overweight problems, and they turn to oral and injected medications aimed at weight reduction. Some of these drugs may contain dangerous chemicals, such as dexfenfluramine, which can cause brain damage.

Exercise is an excellent weight-loss aid. But compulsive exercise is something else. To some, exercise takes priority over everything else in their lives. Compulsive exercise often results in stress injuries.

Finally, many obese individuals resort to surgery to eliminate their weight problems. Unfortunately, obesity surgery does not solve weight problems. In the first two years or so, some patients may have their weight under control. But many late complications begin to surface down the road. Obesity surgery for weight loss is dangerous and should be the last option in weight loss.

Weight loss is a complex health problem. As such, solutions are many, but they are far from being simple and safe. Just don’t jump from the frying pan into the fire!

Heart rate is only one of the guides to exercise intensity

Dear Dr. Donohue: I have some questions about heart rate and its relation to weight loss, health and exercise. I am 53 and weigh 158 pounds. My goal is to lose one pound a week. I work out four to five days a week. My routine is challenging. I sweat. I can talk but cannot sing. My heart is beating fast. During strength classes, my heart rate peaks at 166. During a cardio session, it's between 155 and 165.

My doctor says not to worry about my heart rate as long as I do not feel any pain. My trainer says I should be working out at a less-intense pace. Is my heart rate out of line? Does less-intense exercise burn more fat than high-

intensity exercise? -- J.H.

Dr. Donohue: Using heart rate as a guide to exercise intensity involves subtracting your age from 220 to find your maximum heart rate. For you, that is: 220 minus 53 equals 167. For training purposes, exercise should raise your heartbeat to a level between 60 percent and

80 percent of your maximum heart rate. For you, that is 100 to 134.

When you're lifting weights, your heart rate is going to soar beyond those limits, because you are exerting to your maximum for a short time. That's OK. It's safe.

For aerobic exercise, you want to exercise within your training zone:

100 to 134. Aerobic exercise is the kind of exercise where large muscles are moving for a prolonged period of time,

30 or more minutes. Running, jogging, brisk walking, swimming and bike riding are examples of

aerobic exercise.

A beginner should keep the heart rate at the lower level. A more advanced exerciser aims for the higher range. Even exceeding the higher range is safe if you feel fine during the exercise. Don't become obsessed with heart rate. You can gauge your exercise intensity by how you feel. That's as reliable as counting your heart rate. You should not be panting for air (being able to carry on a conversation is a good guide), you should break a slight sweat and you shouldn't feel muscle pain.

Your trainer tells you that you burn more fat at less-intense levels of exercise. That's true. A slightly higher proportion of your energy is supplied by fat during lower-intensity exercise. However, the total number of fat calories burned is much greater at high-intensity exercise

Go easy with the heart rate guide, or you'll drive yourself crazy. Use perceived exertion -- how you feel -- as the way to judge exercise intensity. Your heart rates are not out of line. Your heart is healthy.

Dr. Donohue regrets that he is unable to answer individual letters, but he will incorporate them in his column whenever possible. Readers may write him or request an order form of available health newsletters at P.O. Box 536475, Orlando, FL 32853-6475. Readers may also order health newsletters from www .rbmamall.com.

How Weight Loss Works Effectively | Health For You

There are so many people who want to drop excess pounds quickly, trying to find that latest magic diet trick on how to reduce their weight rapidly. The weight loss industry have spent billions of dollars trying to make us thinking that weight loss is a complex, overwhelming process that only can be achieved using their latest and greatest “cure” products. Generally, these “state-of-the-art” diets and cures are not only expensive but many times also unhealthy. But those people who are able to think “out-of-the-box” and not simple using the latest “height of fashion” weight loss products, those who are open for simple and healthy weight loss methods, tend to be the winners and will understand how weight loss works effectively. They quickly realize that making systematic and not drastic unsustainable changes of their eating patterns and type food leads to a permanent weight loss, much more than any kind of weigh loss pill, surgery or use of the ultimate weight loss machine.

Although both, diet and exercise are important for burning fat and reducing weight, the emphasis should be on a proven healthy loss diet. Just imagine: to burn the 540 calories of a Big Mac, a 155-pound person needs to run about one hour without interruption. Instead of exercising the extra calories away it is much easier and realistic to apply a diet that is able to accelerate your metabolism, thus burning excessive calories. People are succeeding if they have a grasp of how to eat and – even more important – if they are truly motivated for a change in their life. Those who are able to make meaningful and sustainable lifestyle changes will obtain a lasting and healthy weight loss and will avoid what is called the “boomerang effect”, bouncing right back to what they were before once the diet finished as going back to their normal eating habits. Important to mention in this context is that people always should consult with their physician before making any significant change in their diet or exercise. This is imperative in particular for those with health problems like diabetics or cardiac diseases. In particular risky are some of the low calorie diets or those telling you to stop eating a certain food group like carbohydrates or proteins. These diets might result in serious deficiencies of micronutrients. In fact, eating low calories is one of the worst things that people can do to their body. It slows down the body’s fat burning engine and after an initial weight loss during the first few days the weight loss comes to a halt (known as “dieting plateau”).

A major problem with diets is that people are expected to make large adjustments to the food that they prefer to consume. And the prescribed foods are often not that pleasant. Because people enjoy their foods they eat, going on a restrictive diet will always be a struggle.

One of the smartest solutions for an effective and healthy weight loss and answer to all of the above-mentioned hints and drawbacks is called Calorie Shifting or Calorie Cycling. This dieting technique, published for the first time under the name “Fat Loss 4 Idiots”, has become one of the most popular dieting techniques for rapid healthy weight loss. The main reasons for the success of this healthy loss diet: it is very easy to follow, it is affecting negatively your health, it avoids the dieting plateau effect, it is sustainable and the most important: it helps to lose weight rapidly.

This Calorie Shifting diet has never been acknowledged by the weight loss industry, though, because low calorie food accounts for a multi-billion dollar market in revenue and there is not a lot of money they can make with calorie shifting as with calorie shifting there’s no need for people to buy special kinds of foods or restrict themselves in any kind of way.

The basics of this diet are already practiced for decades by bodybuilders and other body-conscious people. This group of people is applying acute calorie cycling, consuming a high-calorie diet for 2 weeks followed by a low-calorie diet for 2 weeks, and then repeating this pattern over and over again. This way of applying the diet can offer significant advantages to bodybuilders seeking enhanced muscle growth without the increase in body fat which occur with most long-term nutritional programs.

Updated Version of the Diet Solution Program Promotes Eating Healthy to Lose ...

Florham Park, NJ (PRWEB) October 21, 2010

Certified nutritionist, exercise specialist and author Isabel De Los Rios scientifically based weight loss plan has been updated to include more easy to follow meal plans, helping dieters identify food combinations designed to boost metabolism naturally for eating healthy and losing weight permanently. The Diet Solution Program has helped 50,000 people worldwide lose weight for good http://www.thedietsolutionprogram.com/.

Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution and Michelle Obama’s Eating Healthy Food campaign are both working to educate our over-busy nation on the negative impact prolonged consumption of fast, convenient and prepackaged foods are having on our bodies and our health. Both efforts have a vision of overcoming the obesity epidemic by dramatically changing the way Americans eat.

These works aren’t in vain: an estimated 67% of Americans aged 20 and older are either overweight or obese, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Worse still is the discovery by the University of Texas Medical Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology that more than 50% of U.S. women who are currently categorized as overweight by American standards, are actually obese when categorized by international standards.

Isabel De Los Rios understands the difficulties encountered by the overweight and obese. She herself carried an extra thirty pounds on her petite frame just ten years ago. Although De Los Rios worked to limit carbs, count calories, and eat only low-fat “healthy” foods, she failed to reverse the numbers on the scale.

Motivated by a family history of type II diabetes, De Los Rios worked to learn all she could about food and its impact on the body. Eventually she discovered that by combining certain foods she could boost metabolism naturally, which enabled her to lose those stubborn extra pounds and keep them off food good.

De Los Rios applied the information she learned to slim down to help others achieve their health and nutrition goals. Over the past ten years 50,000 people worldwide have experienced permanent weight loss with the aid of her scientifically based weight loss plan The Diet Solution Program. This all natural approach to weight loss focuses on metabolism-boosting foods to promote eating healthy http://www.thedietsolutionprogram.com/ .

The recently updated version of The Diet Solution Program includes detailed, easy to follow meal plans designed to boost metabolism naturally and help dieters lose weight for good all without the use of pills, shakes or pre-packaged foods.

Weight Loss Tips for Kids

In a previous post we shared some weight loss tips for teens and talked about the major causes of teenage obesity. In this post we are going to give you some ideas (to the parents) on what you can do to help your kids maintain their normal weight. Unfortunately the problem of obesity starts on a very early age and the sooner you can deal with it the better will be for the overall health of your children.

If your child is spending more and more time in front of the TV or playing video games then it’s important to make sure they get enough exercise to stay fit and healthy. Obesity amongst children is becoming an ever greater issue especially as it’s known to cause other health problems such as diabetes.

It’s often difficult for parents to be strict about what their children eat. We all want our kids to have everything they wish for but in reality this isn’t always good for them. Even so, weight loss tips for kids shouldn’t include trying to get your child to understand calories. Instead you need to encourage healthy eating and reasonable portion sizes.

Fortunately, stopping weight gain and reducing weight in children is much easier than many people think. In most cases you’ll need to cut back on the amount of food the child consumes by only a small amount. For example, if you want to stop your child gaining weight then you’ll probably only need to reduce his or her calorie intake by around 50-100 calories per day. This is easy to do by slightly reducing potion sizes and replacing unhealthy snacks with healthy ones.

The best way for your child to lose weight is through a combination of a healthy diet and exercise so in this respect the techniques are no different to that you would use for an adult. However, you definitely don’t want to make your child conscious of being overweight so the changes should be made subtly. For example, there are many kids’ sports teams across the country and this can be a fun way for the child to burn extra calories. If your child isn’t interested in sports then taking them on regular walks or buying them a new skateboard could be a different way of getting them to exercise whilst having fun.

Another important technique for getting your child to lose weight is to set a good example. If your kids see that you regularly eat unhealthy snacks and huge meals then they will think this is normal. You should be a role model by eating healthily and exercising regularly. Not only will this set the right example for your kids but it’ll also be beneficial to your overall health!

Fast weight loss tips for eveyone

No matter what your age, nearly everyone needs fast weight loss tips. This may be a child struggling with their weight or their busy parent. Weight loss is universally achieved through basic exercise and healthy eating no matter what your age.

Weight-loss for children can be quite difficult. It is a tough job to convince someone to lose weight when they may not want to. However, for a child’s health it is vital to establish healthy eating habits and exercise early on. Many kids spend way too much time watching television and playing video games. It may be a tough sell; however, it is the parent’s job to get them outside playing or enrolled in sports. Organizations such as the YMCA have facilities for use where kids can play basketball and other fun activities. You can also change your child’s eating habits to aid in their weight-loss. Keep healthier snacks around the house such as pretzels and fresh prepared vegetables. These slight changes in your child’s health can lead to much-needed weight loss.

For the elderly, often times, it is easy to get into a routine. This may be slow-paced hobby or visiting with friends. However, once retired you should use your added free time to stay active to keep in shape. A moderate exercise regimen can have many health benefits and will increase energy. Find a friend who enjoys walking and make that a morning habit. With age the body starts to deteriorate; however, by staying active and exercising this will greatly reduce body aches and will prolong your life.

Young parents are often pressed for time in the day to eat right and exercise. Time management is important in all aspects of life and this is also true with weight loss. Try to use one evening a week to plan your meals and even prepare them. Decide on some low fat meal ideas and prepare several of them for the week. You could then freeze these meals and they are ready to go for the rest of the week. Simply pop them in the microwave or oven and you will have a delicious low-calorie meal in no time. Also, include the kids in your exercise. Start going on more long family walks to help yourself and the kids. In addition, don’t be afraid to play games such as hide and seek and tag with the kids in the yard. This will benefit everyone.

Green Tea Fat Burner for Weight Loss

Welcome back and here is another original weight loss article for WeightLossGo.com which may not, as is the case for all article published on this site, be copied and published elsewhere being protected by copyright law. This time I want to take a look at the type of green tea fat burner for weight loss that has grown rapidly in popularity in recent years, and in particular the interesting organic green tea known as Tava Tea, since I’m a paid affiliate of theirs and it makes for interesting reading as well.

green tea for weight lossTava Tea, being 100 percent organic retains far more of its health giving properties than many other brands of green tea, which makes it an excellent choice as a hot beverage to not only relax with and enjoy for itself, but to combine that with its health giving properties and its rather interesting ability to help your body to burn fat and reduce bad LDL cholesterol. Also, unlike many other kinds of weight loss teas, Tava comes in high quality pyramid bags that brew faster than conventional teabags because they allow the hot water to circulate through the tea leaves more freely.

Tests have shown that drinking Tava Tea slows down the production of insulin by the body after ingesting carbohydrates and also sweet foods. By reducing insulin production, the possibility of weight gain is also reduced as insulin is the hormone that is responsible for causing your body to store fat. So by drinking a cup of Tava Tea around fifteen minutes after eating any fatty foods, high GI carbs or sweet foods, the chances of gaining weight are greatly reduced.

This wonderful tea is also perfect for maintaining a peaceful state of mind and promoting inner calm. The exclusive Tava Tea mix consists of the important amino acid L-theanine. This helps to balance Dopamine and Serotonin which are neutron-transmitting chemicals that control your mood.

Further Research Information

Research that was conducted by Dr. Kenichi Yanagimoto as long ago as 2004 uncovered that drinking green tea produced a 50% reduction in free radicals in test subjects. Free radicals are attributed with aging, so this is another very good reason to learn to love drinking green tea. Tava Tea has also undergone tests and has been found to ease digestion and help with digestive problems, while reducing abdominal bloating and has been shown to burn as much as 2.5 times more calories than most generic brands of green tea. Combined with this is the already well known health benefits that come with drinking green tea regularly, so it’s a positive step to take in your own personal journey to better health as well as looking to losing some weight naturally.

Here are some very good reasons to buy Tava Tea:

100% organic weight loss teaHelps burn fatReduces cholesterol levelsThe strongest weight loss tea ever createdCertificated by CERES and USDA180 day money back guaranteeFree Shipping

Lastly, if you do decide that Tava Tea is something that you want to try for yourself, you’ll be happy to know that it comes with a full money back guarantee. Better still, unlike some less than honest competitors who peddle some green tea products, the Tava Tea company does not offer any tempting free trials where you’re asked for your credit card details and later find your being billed every month! They will only charge you for the tea that you order and that’s all. So you can rest assured you won’t be locking yourself into anything you don’t want to be.

Does Alli Work as a Weight Loss Pill?

Welcome back and in this original post on weightlossgo.com (do not copy or publish elsewhere under copyright law) I want to take a look at the weight loss pill known as Alli and whether it can help you to lose weight, or not. As a paid affiliate of one of the vendors that sells Alli, buy.com, I feel its important to present my trademark unbiased and balanced review of the product that I am also promoting through this article.

There are plenty of weight loss pills on the market these days and it might seem like a confusing state of affairs for anyone who is overweight and feeling a little inundated with the vast choice that is before you. So hopefully, this Alli review will go some way to dispelling any uncertainties surrounding this particular supplement and help you decide if it can help you.

According to the blurb on official looking websites promoting this product, Alli is good for adults who want to lose weight and are overweight with a BMI of 28 or over. As long as you understand the importance of eating sensibly when you’re trying to lose that excess weight, it can help. It goes on to read that if you know what it feels like to get onto the bathroom scales and not see much evidence of weight loss as you were expecting, then this pill could be exactly what you need.

So what is that saying to you? Well, all that says is that as long as you know that you should eat right but you’re not seeing good results with your weight loss strategy, then supplementing with Alli can help make it work better. Here’s is some more info on what exactly it is and what it does:

Alli is a weight loss capsule that is intended to be used in conjunction with a support program designed to help improve your strategy’s chances of success at losing weight. It has been clinically proven that by including Alli with a calorie controlled, reduced fat diet, it can help improve your weight loss by as much as 50 percent. It works by preventing a proportion of the fat you consume in food from being absorbed by your body. That means that for every 2 pounds you lose by eating healthily, by using Alli as well you can lose a further 1 pound. It is also worth noting that Alli is the very first weight loss aid available only in pharmacies that is licensed throughout the European Union.

The information provided by studies conducted into this product seem to prove the claims that by adding Alli to a low calorie, low fat diet, you can increase the weight you lose by as much as half again. However, that information comes from non-independent studies, so they could be skewed in favor of the product.

The best way is to try them for yourself. That way, you will see whether they are effective or not. It is a relatively inexpensive diet supplement so getting a month supply is affordable and if you don’t see results within that time, you haven’t really lost much. On the flip side, if they work well for you, then you have found a good product that is licensed in the EU and certified safe to use for most people, but read the label first just to be sure. Click the image to the right for a great deal and a great price on this great diet supplement.

I Want To Lose Weight But I Have No Motivation

There’s no doubt that the hardest part of losing weight is staying motivated. Weight loss isn’t something that happens overnight – you need to stick at it if you want to see results. Most people know how to lose weight so the main reason everyone isn’t slim and healthy is that it’s difficult to keep up a weight loss regime for a long period of time. Here are some tips for staying motivated whilst losing weight.

1. The first thing you need to do is work out why you want to lose weight in the first place. Is it because you want to be generally healthier? Are you worried about the way you look? Is it because there’s an important wedding coming up? Everyone is different and you need to decide why losing weight is important to you personally before working out how to increase your motivation.
2. The next tip is to work out some long, medium and short term goals. Your long term goal should be the final amount of weight you want to lose. This can be as much as you want as long as you understand it’ll take time to get there. The medium and short term goals should provide you with targets to aim towards in an attempt to reach your final target. Setting smaller targets is a great way of increasing your motivation because it allows you to measure your progress.
3. Another great way to stay motivated is to have a weight loss partner. If you know someone who wants to lose weight then you can keep each other company while exercising, keep track of what the other is eating and provide support for each other. If you know you have to answer to someone other than yourself it can make a big difference.
4. Entering a sporting event such as a fun run or bike race will keep you on track when exercising and provide something to work towards. It can be hard to keep exercising on a daily basis if there is no end goal. Just be careful not to aim too high to begin with.
5. Many people find that keeping a journal of their weight loss efforts can help them to stay motivated. The useful thing about a diary is that if you’re having a bad day you can look back and see how much progress you’ve made. Sometimes it can be difficult to gauge progress through memory alone and a diary solves this problem. You don’t have to write in it every day unless you want to. If you would like to make the most out of a diary then you could even attach photos every few weeks to see the changes in your body shape. There’s nothing more motivational than knowing you’re going to have to see yourself naked on a regular basis!
6. Also, most people find it easier to get motivated to exercise in the morning. After a long days work nothing seems more appealing than lying down on the sofa watching TV for a few hours. If you never want to exercise after work then try to get up a bit earlier to do a 20 minute cardiovascular workout.
7. Try to do something every day. Even if it’s only a few press-ups you should keep your momentum going by exercising each and every day.

Ultimately, success and failure when it comes to weight loss depends on your motivation. If you can find a way to keep motivated over a long period of time then you’re well on your way to losing as much weight as you want.

Weight loss stories: Parasitic Worms for Weight Loss in Hong Kong

The fitness industry in Hong Kong is big. This is because of the increasing obesity rate in the country due to sedentary lifestyle, fast food availability, and long working hours. Hong Kong locals have tried a lot of weight loss innovations available including diet pills, body suits, exercise machines, fat-burning soap, and just about anything.

A new weight loss craze in Hong Kong is the ingestion of the eggs of a certain parasitic worm called Ascaris (Ascaris Lumbricoides). Health Officials confirmed the news and further explained that a certain Chinese-language website has been promoting the use of products that contain worm eggs that promises fast weight loss results.

A representative from the Hong Kong’s Department of Health said that there is no supporting study or solid evidence that the use of parasitic worms is an effective way of losing weight. Though one of the signs of Ascaris infestation is weight loss, this effect happens at a later stage where these worms can do more harm on the body than good.

The health officer further explained that Ascaris Lumbricoides or commonly called as roundworm is a giant intestinal parasitic worm that could grow up to 15 to 35 inches long and could produce more than 200,000 eggs per day inside the body. Furthermore, these worms could cause diarrhea, stomach pain, distention, and malnutrition because they eat up most of the nutrients from the body and could lacerate intestinal walls using their sharp teeth.

With their uncontrollable population growth, these worms could roll up in a ball also called as “Ascaris bolus” that could cause an obstruction on the intestinal, biliary, and pancreatic ducts. Obstructions on these pathways cause serious complications which can be fatal. Moreover, these worms could migrate to other parts of the body like the lungs, causing respiratory problems.

The DOH-HK spokesman urged the people to consult a health professional before starting on any “special” diet so people will know the pros, cons and risks of that particular weight loss program. He also added that eating less and exercising more is still the healthiest and most effective means of losing weight.

For those who have already ingested the eggs or have Ascaris adults living in their intestines, you would need to contact your nearest healthcare provider or the DOH-HK immediately for de-worming and counseling. However, for worse cases of infestation, the patient may need to undergo a surgery for manual removal of the worms.

Weight loss – How to calculate my ideal weight?

As a weight loss advisor in a fitness gym, it has been our policy that every new member will be assessed by me. Because of that, I have met a lot of people with different weight who have been struggling with weight loss for a long time. Some people are aware of their current weight status; some are in denial, while others just don’t care.

Many people have a different perception of what is the ideal weight. Some say it is a hundred pounds while others say it’s one hundred fifty. These numbers may be correct, but do you know that the ideal weight is determined together with the height?

During physical assessment of new members, one of the basic things I discuss with them is their Body Mass Index or BMI. Through BMI, I am able to determine if the client is underweight, normal, overweight, obese, or extremely obese. This way, together with their fitness instructor, we are able to formulate an effective weight management program specifically designed for that particular client.

Body Mass Index or BMI is a widely used tool by health professionals to categorize an individual to a certain weight group. This method is defined as the ratio of body weight and height. It is usually correlated with the percentage of fat deposits in the body, however people with increased muscle mass or those with larger body frame can also have an increased BMI.

There are three ways to measure a person’s BMI, the first equation is by dividing the weight in kilograms by the square of the height in meters. This is the simplest and universally used formula:

BMI = ( Weight in Kilograms / ( Height in Meters x Height in Meters ) )

Another way to get the person’s BMI is by dividing the person’s weight in pounds times 4.88 by the square of height in feet. The last option is by dividing the weight in pounds times 703 by the square of height in inches.

BMI = ( Weight in Pounds / ( Height in inches x Height in inches ) ) x 703

BMI = ( Weight in LB / ( Height in ft x Height in ft ) ) x 4.88

You may use any of the equations above, depending on which equation you are comfortable with. However, the first equation which is utilizing the SI unit of measure is highly recommended because it is what health professionals use.

After computing the BMI, the next step is to interpret the results. Look at your BMI and try to see where you BMI fit in to the following categories:

People with a BMI between18.5 – 24.9 are considered to have an ‘ideal weight’.And just little above that, i.e. BMI of 25 – 29.9, are categorized as Overweight. In the 2007 survey of the US Department of Health and Human Services, It has been recorded that 63% of the total population of America are overweight.People are facing weight issues in a different scale. However, the most alarming concern is the growing population of people who are overweight and obese. This problem has not only affected the adults but it has also affected the children as well.

It is very important for everyone to know how to calculate the ideal body weight because it can give you an indication if you need to eat more, eat less, or just continue eating the same amount of food. By doing so, you will be saving yourself the trouble of seeking medical interventions to help you add or lose weight.

Weight Loss News Stories

You may or may not have noticed a new addition to this information-packed WeightLossGo.com website sitting up there in the header navigation bar under the site title. Entitled simple “News”, this is a separate set of posts that I will be adding to regularly to provide interesting or relevant news stories that crop up with regard to the subject of weight loss in general.

What is the idea behind this move?

The idea is to provide more up-to-date articles for the site that are original and not merely RSS feeds or stolen content from other sites, but originally written articles that I personally write taken from information I have researched on the particular new story. It’s a fact that people like to be kept informed on what’s happening in the world, which is why there are so many general news sites out there. But for a more specialized topic, such as weight loss, there are fewer dedicated sites that bring you quality, original news stories that cover different aspects of this topic. So it just made sense to add an extra dimension to this site and bring you, the reader, more information that is in the news and on topic.

So what will I be covering, precisely?

Well, any newsworthy story that involves the subject of losing weight, health issues where a person’s weight is an aspect, scientific and medical discoveries into aiding people to lose weight as well as high profile celebrity stories that aren’t just publicity stunts but genuine attempts to lose weight including successes and failures. After all, we’re all human and are prone to succeed as much as fail at certain things and losing weight is no different.

So why have I created a separate set of pages and not simply included the news stories in the main blog?

I want to keep the main blog reserved for mainstream weight loss tips, techniques and strategies. I feel that information would be diluted by the addition of daily news stories and the place would start looking cluttered and more difficult to navigate. So to keep one side separate from the other, its just a simple case of creating a new space for the news stories which look surprisingly like the main blog, although you can navigate to the latest story with a single click on the “News” link in the navigation bar along the top of this page just below the main site title.

I hope this change will improve the reader experience and provide new readers with more reasons to come back often and see what is here. The main blog will continue to be updated once or twice a month with new ideas and tips for losing weight, while the news section will be updated daily where possible and of course if there is a worthwhile and newsworthy weight loss related story to bring you!

Weight loss success stories

This is the first part of the new “Weight loss success stories” series featured on Weight loss help and tips.net.

When it comes to weight loss I have tried nearly everything over the last few years. From all types of diet pills to prepackaged meal plans; I have bought nearly everything. Not to mention the countless hours searching the Internet for quick ways to lose weight. Over that time it seemed like nothing would ever help melt the pounds off. That is until I found the real truth about losing weight (balanced diet & regular exercise). After a few short months of taking care of what I eat and exercising on a regular basis, I started to notice the pounds were actually coming off.

When I was younger it seemed like I could eat whatever I wanted and I would never gain a pound. I was not exactly constantly on the go to burn off those excess calories, but being younger my metabolism was high and I had no problem staying relatively active. However, once I started to hit my 30s everything started to change. I slowly noticed that my pants were starting to get a little tighter. Like most people, I ignored it and let the pounds sneak up on me. After awhile it started to get a little embarrassing to be in public with no shirt on. This can really put a damper on the weekend at the beach.

So, finally after a few years I had had enough and decided I was going to finally get rid of the weight. I joined a gym and started going a few times a week on a regular basis. At first it felt good to be getting exercise, and I did feel a burst of energy which lasted through the week. However, after a few weeks of going to the gym and hitting it hard I was still not seeing the results I wanted. So, I knew it was time to take further action.

I have never been a real healthy eater so I made a concerted effort to try and change my diet. I started incorporating some low-fat meals a few times a week into my regular diet. However, the truth is I’m just not that dedicated of a person. I really like to eat and I felt I was really limiting myself. In addition, the excitement of going to the gym and making a lifestyle change was starting to wear off. It was becoming a real chore to make myself get to the gym to work out.

Since traditional methods were not working I decided to start trying diet pills. Most of these pills simply made my stomach feel upset even though they provided me with some extra energy throughout the day. In conjunction with the pills I started buying expensive meal plans. However, most of these meal plans do not provide enough calories for a grown man. I would cheat in between meals and pig out on unhealthy snacks which only exacerbated the problem.

So, this was my endless cycle until I finally realized that weight loss has only one path. I have tried everything else, so I figured why not give that a try too. The real solution to weight loss is not pills or expensive exercise equipment not even costly gym memberships. All you need is motivation; long term commitment, patience, careful but not strict diet and being physically active an alive. Living a lifestyle that is real keeping exaggerations away is the recipe for success. You do not need to starve yourself or spend endless hours in the gym to lose weight. Try to keep a balance on what you eat and on what you do and the results will come.

Weight Loss Tips for Teenage girls

The teenager years, or the adolescent, or the puberty years, whatever you prefer to call it, is one of the main turning points in one’s life. It is also the time that both girls and boys become conscious of themselves, which is why most of them want to lose weight. Granted, weight loss can be achieved just by about anyone, but, because of their childish tendencies, these teenagers try to lose weight in a very unhealthy manner.

At some point, especially with teenage girls, most prefer the ‘fast track’ and other diet regimens that promise to give results in a few weeks, or even days. However, these schemes not only they do not present results but they may generate side-effects that are quite harmful to the body.

If you do not want to do a deep research on how to lose weight here are some weight loss tips for teenage girls that will give you a good idea of what you need to do to address your weight problem. The list below is by no means complete but by following these tips you ensure that you are going towards the correct direction.

Breakfast is one of the most important meals, and this is even more important for teenagers that need the nutrients and minerals in order to supplement their growing bodies. Eating healthy in the morning will give you more energy to cope with your lessons and activities and will keep your stomach full until launch time. If you think about it, all it takes to eat breakfast in the morning is to wake up 10 minutes earlier. Once you make it a habit everything else will be easier and you will feel better and healthier.Snack on fresh fruits and vegetables. If you really want to lose weight, you need snacks that are not only delicious and tasty but are also packed with nutrients and vitamins. As a teenager you need all the energy you can get from food and fruits and vegetables are among the best sources. Perfect examples are apples, oranges, bananas and apricots.Commit yourself to doing as much physical activity as possible. A careful diet is only the first part of the weight loss equation; the other part is physical activity and exercise. You do not have to join a gym or do any formal training; any physical activity is beneficial for your weight loss efforts provided that you do it regularly. For example do not underestimate the benefits of walking in losing weight. Walking is easy to do and can do wonders to your weight loss. Whenever you get a chance to walk, run, climb the stairs, and engage into sports (basketball, tennis etc) do it. It will help you burn calories faster and boost your metabolism.Do not forget that if you cannot address your weight loss problem alone, there are dedicated professionals to give you guidance and advice. The web is certainly a good way to get information but if this fails you need to consult a physician or a dietician first. This is in order to have a proper and full physical examination of your body, and to know the types of food that you should be eating.

Finally, it is good to care about your appearance and weight but do not take it very seriously. There are more important aspects of a person’s character that bypass the external appearance and enrich the internal beauty. Do not lose your confidence and self esteem and be sure that weight loss is a problem that you can tackle if you really want to. It sometimes takes more time then you might think but there is absolutely no reason why you cannot make it.
